Nursery Update

Earlier this year Josie, Dorothy (a trustee), and her daughter Debbie went to review the nurseries and they gave an excellent report: ''The nurseries are in great form with all the children very relaxed. The young people from England who came over last summer (2013) did an amazing job in decorating the buildings with huge murals in happy colours both inside and outside’ The nurseries are thriving and doing well. There have been new children into both nurseries since the start of the new year and all are receiving good nutrition, lots of fun and a stimulating start to education. Carlos and Sula are learning to teach the nursery staff how, with good stimulation, the children learn though experience and in these early years do not need blackboard teaching. They have been passing on lots of creative skills such as cutting and gluing, papier mache and making masks from balloons.

Carlos's New Bike

Carlos now has a new motorbike thanks to fund raising by Dorothy, Debbie & friends in Waterlooville. They organised several events including a sponsored swim,a cake stall at church and 'Guess the name of the Rabbit'. The bike is a Yamaha XTZ125 and will help Carlos to travel between nurseries. Many thanks to Dorothy and friends for their hard work in achieving this!

Sunday 23 March 2014

Josie has just returned from visiting Peru where she was invited by the Director of the Unidad De Gestion Educativa Local Ventanill to teach a course on child development. The organisation is based in Lima and over 100 teachers (including Head Teachers) attended. The nine day course covered early education for children aged between 6 months and 6 years and included communication, stimulation and hygiene. Josie encouraged the teachers to join in with creative play sessions such as making masks, drawing, painting and music and movement. This was the first time many of the teachers had participated in these activities themselves and much fun and enjoyment was had. Those attending the course received a certificate and will take the knowledge and practical experience back to their communities.
